I began drawing, painting, and art lessons when I was eleven years old and have never stopped. Art is a life pursuit, not just a career. I have been sidetracked with various jobs over the years. Now that our children are raised and I am retired from a public job I can return to my first love, art.
I spent ten years in the Air Force as a medic and recruiter. I supported my husband in our business endeavors; real estate development and sales, luxury car sales, and contracting and building. Those businesses often required the input of an artist with advertising. I produced all our display ads and brochures. When possible I continued to paint. I worked in the airline industry in later years.
My formal education included two plus years of college in Fine Arts, at Southeastern Louisiana University and the University of North Texas. The demands of raising a family and working proved there weren’t enough hours in the day. I laid aside formal education and determined to embark on my own field of study to develop my skills. I have taken several seminars with portrait painters of international reputation and continued my personal development as an artist. A God-given talent is either there or it isn’t.
As varied as my art interests are, I always come back to portraits. It is a fine thing to give a family a lasting tribute to a loved one. It is equally gratifying to honor a person of accomplishment with a corporate or military commission.
I support the National Portrait Society of America to further the art of the portrait, and am also a member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Neither membership implies endorsement.
